About Us

Our Story

Spirales is the coming together of two creative souls, and a shared love of spirals.

Tammy and Mark met at agricultural college, studying practical habitat management, surrounded by nature that would go on to inspire everything they create. Life took them in different directions for a while, Mark into woodland and estate management, Tammy into floristry and eventually her own wedding flowers business, but creativity was always at the heart of both their lives.

It was during her recovery from an operation that Tammy first discovered jewellery making, starting with tiaras and hair fascinators, then simple beaded necklaces, before finding her signature: the hand-wrapped spiral. Nearly 18 years later, those spirals are still at the heart of everything she makes, each piece crafted by hand, one at a time.

Mark's journey with art has been equally personal. Though he studied art at A level, it wasn't until the family moved to a community farm in Cornwall that something shifted. Inspired by the landscape and the natural world around him, his style transformed into the intricate, joyful, colour-filled Tree of Life paintings and animal portraits he is known for today. Diagnosed as bipolar around nine years ago, Mark finds real peace and purpose in his art, and it shows in every brushstroke. He has been painting and selling his work for 16 years.

As Mark works long shifts in care with teenagers, Tammy takes the lead on dispatching orders and running the day-to-day of Spirales, so Mark can focus on what he does best, painting and making.

Why Spirales?

Spirales is simply the French word for spirals, and France holds a special place in our hearts. Seventeen years ago we bought a house there, originally dreaming of a new life across the Channel. Life had other plans, and it's now our much-loved (if rather expensive!) holiday retreat. But the name stuck, and we think it suits us perfectly.

The spiral itself is the thread that runs through everything we do. It appears in Tammy's wire-wrapped jewellery and in Mark's paintings, a symbol of growth, nature, and connection. When we set up our first market stall together, it felt completely natural to bring both worlds under one name.

We are based in the beautiful Blackdown Hills in Devon, where we have lived for the past 13 years, drawing daily inspiration from the landscape, wildlife, and seasons around us.

Everything in our shop is entirely our own work. No outsourcing, no mass production, just two makers, doing what they love, making things that we hope will bring a little beauty and joy into your life.

When we're not making or painting, you'll find us with our children Hazel and Jack (now all grown up and flown the nest with their partners), and Rosie, our beloved Saluki x Collie, who has very much taken over as the baby of the family!
